More German woodfirers

This is Katrin Otolski's kiln - she fires earthernware in Woserin, south of Rostock. I first saw her work in Gmunden in Austria years ago when we were both on the ceramic market there. I have one of her flower pots - now have brought home five more to enjoy.

Visit to Ute Dreist

We ended our day's tour of workshops at Ute Dreist.
She made dinner for 13 people - while we watched cranes flying overhead and listened to the green tree frogs in her apple trees.

Woodfirers in Mecklenburg Vorpommern - Jens-Peter Planke

I have just returned from Mecklenburg Vorpommern in the North-Eastern part of Germany where I was attending a planning meeting about the Woodfire Conference to be held next year in September. The Conference, the first of it's kind in Europe, will be held at Bröllin Castle, which we also visited.
On tuesday we went on a tour of local woodfire potters workshops - Jens-Peter Planke was our guide and here are some pictures from his own home and workshop in Lenzen:

Looking at the results of all the firings of the past month

Now that I am home again after a month at Guldagergaard I have been unpacking and looking at the work from the firings - 7 in all that we had during August- not that I had that much work fired, but I had something in all kilns, except the second soda firing.

Pinched bowl fired in the Olsen Cross Draught kiln

This bowl was fired in the Bourry Box kiln - we used so much pine it gave too much ash...

This tall pot (22cms X 14cms) came out of a soda firing
