Three spotted bowls

Three bowls with celadon

My favourite bowl, sold at the opening

"3 Potters" Exhibition opens in London

The exhibition "3 Potters" opened on tuesday evening.
Here are some images from the gallery and from the street outside.

Galerie Besson is behind the large window with the balcony.

First view of the exhibition as you come up the stairs.

Our work was extremely harmonious together, as we had a common tone - a blueish charcoal colour which bound all the works together.
Annie Turner's River Ladders gave movement and elegance and Riitta Talonpoika's wall pieces gave calmness to the room. My bowls added variety perhaps....

Bowls dispatched to London

At last the sorting and packing is over and 47 bowls are on their way to London. As Galerie Besson is closed until the staff gets back from SOFA in Chicago, so I hope my timing is right and the box (only one) will arrive there on thursday.
I have sorted and packed the bowls in groups for the exhibition, creating, I hope, some order out of chaos, as they are a little overwhelmingly grey when seen en masse, but grouped according to tone and pattern they seem to calm down and fall into place.
I enjoy other people making decisions about exhibiting my work, so I look forward to seeing how they are arranged when I go over for the opening on the 18th.

Meanwhile outside the window, autumn is giving way to winter...

The intoxication of woodfiring

I am busy sorting and packing the work to be sent to London.
Apart from five bowls which are already in the gallery which appear on the invitation and two bowls with celadon spots from the exhibition on Bornholm, all the work in the exhibition will be from the last firing. They hang together in a quite special way and play up to each other in colour and texture.
Some are a creamy corn colour - with pink spots - terracotta terrasiggilata . Others are rusty, crusty, dry and dark .....
I am putting them into groups where I also sort according to variations of shape. A few have warped quite dramatically and those are at the moment my favourites. At the same time I am thinking of the next group of bowls I would rather be making instead of battling with bubblewrap.........

KILN UNPACKED

The kiln was unpacked today - as you can see from the cones visible in the picture, the temperature went up just as high as we planned: the last cone standing was cone 12.
The wadding was almost miraculously self-releasing - no hard work in cleaning and grinding to do this time!
Now I have brought all the bowls home to Holte and can look at them prior to packing and sending them to London for the exhibition.

Firing over

The firing was over at 1am monday morning - 15 minutes ago. This is definitely the last firing with this chimney pipe - now lacy edged and with a network of small holes round the top. But it drew well for this last time.
Cones all went down as they should, and the rear of the kiln appeared to be hotter than the front. But cones can be deceiving so I will await the opening - probably on wednesday evening.

Riitta Talonpoika

Riitta Talonpoika from Fiskars in Finland is half way through a two month residency period at Guldagergaard where these photos were taken this morning . We are exhibiting together at Galerie Besson in London from the 18th November. See the new Galerie Besson site www.galeriebesson.co.uk

I am having a break from stoking the Bourry Box kiln which I lit at 6am this morning.

Kiln packed and ready to be lit!

At last I am about to fire the last bowls for the exhibition in London - there are about 50 bowls in the Bourry Box kiln, packed today. To fill all the space, and to take the brunt of the flames in the front of the kiln, I am lucky to have work of Nina Hole and Sten Lykke Madsen. Nina has been here today packing her pieces and will take a shift or two tomorrow. Conor Mclean who is currently working as an assistent at Guldagergaard will also be helping with the firing and has some work in it.
I will start it tomorrow in the early dawn - 5am? 6am? It is very cold here at the moment, so I'd rather spend the dark hours by the kiln when it is hot, than in the slow, cold starting phase. So perhaps it will be 7am.

We are still enjoying the Halloween pumpkins on the doorstep at Guldagergaard.... Network 2008 is in progress and the house is full of enthusiastic young ceramists.
