Pots with Celadon Spots

This is another of the pictures taken last week by Photographer Ole Akhøj.
These two bowls are spotted with celadon, which either fluxes and protects a spot from carbon trapping, or loses out to the carbon in the firing turmoil...

I have heard from the Jurying Service for the NCECA Clay National that my application has gone through to the selection process. It has taken a lot of time and e mails to get it there.

More bowls.....

I have already made 20 new bowls for the next Galerie Besson Show (tentative opening date 18th November) and have booked a firing in the Bourry Box kiln at Guldagergaard for mid October.
Robert Sanderson who built the kiln will be working at Guldagergaard all October, and nothing could be better than having him around to share a firing. He fires without a pyrometer - and I really like doing that too.
I have to be in South Africa from the 17th September til the 6th October - so not all my time can be spent in pinching and firing.
Hope to visit Cape Town potter friends - Clementina van der Walt, Lisa Firer, Andile Dyalvane and Katherine Glenday. Also Macgregor wood firer - Paul de Jongh.

"Notes from my Childhood" - Group of pinched porcelain bowls

Here is the first of the pictures Ole Akhøj has taken of my bowls: This is one of the two groups I was planning to enter in the NCECA Clay National 2009, but have just given up in frustration as the application system simply won't recognise my credit card details.
But Gallery Besson has invited me to exhibit in November/December so they can go there instead.

Porcelain candle holders

Here are some of the pinched porcelain candlelight holders - 24 of them delivered today. They have been ordered by a hairdresser in Lidköbing, Sweden, who is going to light them in her salon in the dark month up to Christmas.

Here is the advance flyer of the woodfire conference to be held in 2010. I spent the weekend at a "brainstorming" meeting about it - it will be held at Schloss Bröllin which is about an hour by train from Berlin.

Visit to Markus and Ute Boehm in Germany

Kiln Shed
Markus' kiln packed and ready to fire

I got back late last night from a weekend visit to Markus and Ute Boehm in Alt Gaarz, on Lake Muritz, Germany.
We met to discuss plans for the 1st European Woodfire Conference, scheduled to take place in 2010.
